Chasing that ball

At the beginning of this year, I was able to spent few days resting with a friend by the ocean, walking, cooking, eating, talking – my favourite activities. I felt rested and relaxed before starting another intensive year of various ministries and activities. On one of the walks along the beach I sat on the bench to catch a breath before making my way back to the apartment in which I stayed. My attention was drawn to the family of four: mum, dad, a boy and a girl. Dad with kids were walking down the hill playing catch and throw a ball while mum was walking alongside pathway pushing an empty pram. The girl was approximately six years old and was quick in catching the ball thrown by dad. The boy was much younger and as any toddler often losing his balance while running after the ball. On almost every occasion the girl was quicker than the boy in getting the ball. The boy’s frustration started to show on his face. Dad encouraged the boy not to give up, but keep going. However, it was almost a mission-impossible to him. Suddenly the boy abandoned the play and run towards his mum. I thought he is giving up but he reached the back of the pram and fished out something. I was really intrigued what was he is going to do. A ball was in his hands! It seemed that he remembered there was an extra ball being kept there. A smile of happiness appeared on his face instantly. His dad, like myself, looked amused watching him and we both smiled. I turned to him and commented, “your son is very clever, isn’t he?”. His father said, “oh, yes, he always find the way to get what he wants”.
The little scene I observed made me think about God and His grace. God invites us to partake in His goodness and constantly encourages us to be open for His graces. Many of them we receive unconditionally, as free, unexpected gifts. I believe some other graces from Him are at times unreachable to us. In spite of having been given, we are not ready to use them at the particular time simply because we haven’t reached our disposition and wisdom. But God never give up on us, He respects our freedom in seeking more than one way to find His grace. He approves our efforts in fishing out for things which he gives in places where he knows we can find. He trusts that we would remember where they are, such as our talents, interests or simply our kindness to others. Take them, use them and continue live in happiness.
The words Seeking God’s Grace is not only the name of this blog. It is a life-long process of active listening, watching and searching for God’s graces in our lives. Our loving God wants to give the best for us. This year, I hope to share with you some stories which might give you some inspirations on how to seek God’s grace. Stay tuned, stay connected, more stories are coming!
Have a good week,
Sr Grace
