One voice we should follow

A few days ago, I randomly came across a video on social media featuring a herd of lambs. The scene was simple: first, some passersby called out to the sheep, using the names given to them by the shepherd. Then, the shepherd himself did the same. While in the first instance none of the sheep moved, as soon as the shepherd called them, they immediately turned around and followed his directions.
Although in the 21st century it is rather rare to see shepherds calling their lambs, it is nonetheless impressive to see that lambs recognize and obey the shepherd’s voice.
There is something special about the fact that Jesus called himself the “Good Shepherd”—and that He called us His sheep.
One thing is for sure: we listen to many voices and follow some. But there is, in fact, only one voice we should follow—the voice of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, who not only knows us by name but also knows which direction is best for us, which way we should go.
He knows when we are exposed to danger and which shortcuts are good for us. Even more, He pays attention to each of us individually, never treating any of us as “less precious,” and is especially attentive to those of us who seem not to listen to His voice. He wants us to feel safe and find comfort in His arms.
P.S. Winter is a time when we all need comfort more than at other times of the year. Short days and long nights prompt us to seek physical warmth, and we are more likely to look for cozy surroundings and comfort food. Today, I invite you to try my friend’s “Lamb Soup”(click and print from that link) —an easy-to-make treat that you’ll find yourself making repeatedly. And thank you to my best friend for the recipe!
