Friendship matters

I do believe that Jesus, while living with all of us on earth, enjoyed the company of His friends and good meals. He seemed to be choosing the people he dined with (Mk 2:13-17) and stopped many times in the house of Lazarus, Mary and Martha (John 12:2). The establishment of the two sacraments: Eucharist and Priesthood, had happened over the meal (Mt 26:17–30, Mk14:12–26, Lk 22:7–39 and Jn 13:1–17:26). All of these events “over the meal” show me that nurturing our body and soul is equally important and meaningful. Our relationship with one another and with God grow through those moments, as Sr Joan Chittister once said: A good friendship fulfils the need for nurturance – we look for someone who will help us to become, to grow. How about inviting someone for a meal and good conversation today? You can learn from others as much as they can from you.
